Aeon - 2023
One hundred years. One million species.
Earth is passing from the Holocene into the Anthropocene epoch, “the time of man”
Our terraforming will litter the geological strata for Aeons. One million species lost in one hundred years. Will geological records rate us with meteors and glaciers? Or will we do what is necessary to avert catastrophic climate change?
2200x2200x2700h Corten Steel, Stainless steel, copper, brass, motor, lights.

GaiaGyre - 2021
🏆 AWARDED Best Outdoor Sculpture, Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition
Gaia: Planet Earth as a self regulating organism. Gyre: Spiral. Vortex.
After my foray into working with a variety of metals and techniques in Excuse me Mr Seagull I wanted to apply what I’d learnt in a personal piece that talked about Australia since colonisation and also the world in general since the industrial revolution.
I wanted to suggest a playfulness about it (higgledy piggledy buildings and cute vehicles etc) but with a dark undertone as it also speaks of the relentless extraction of resources and abuse of the first inhabitants of this land. Through the story that I tell with hundreds of individually created pieces, I have explored many new ways of working with various metals and my traditional ferro-cement methods. Hammering, punching, casting, patinating, painting, galvanising, acid treating and plasma cutting are just some of these newly developed techniques.
Like Helix, its sister piece, it references evolution and DNA, the double helix as its core, the essence of life. Though our future is uncertain, the stainless steel spire is a symbol of hope for our future.
7500 x 1600 x 1600 Stainless steel, copper, brass, corten steel, aluminium, plastic, ferro-cement, ceramic, epoxy paint.

Excuse Me, Mr Seagull - 2018
I was commissioned by the Bass Coast Shire Council to create an iconic sculpture for the San Remo Foreshore. It was created to fulfil the commission criteria in a way that allowed me to express myself and explore my sculptural medium.
I chose to use various elements that represent the fishing history of the area in a whimsical way that would appeal to children and the child within us all. The hanging sea creatures were inspired by the memory of a mobile above a child's cot.
As with most of my works I pay homage to our aboriginal history, this time with the boat also representing a dugout canoe which as a history and story that goes back tens of thousands of years.
6000 x 5000 x 2000 Stainless steel, copper, ferro-cement, oxides and tiles

Helix - 2016
This piece was a foray into incorporating more diverse materials into my works and my introduction to DNA as a way to explore the beginning and essential components of life.
It is a homage to our evolution, with hope for the future.
4650 x 700 x 600 Ferro-cement, oxides, tiles, steel, and copper.

Forms of Being - 2011
A sister piece to ‘Sentinel’, this piece represents plant life, and an implied innate intelligence and communication that we have no way of truly understanding.
It is a further exploration of large scale construction methods.

Sentinel II - 2010
A test and foray into tall large scale works, this is the first of a group of sculptures (which includes ‘Forms of Being’) that represent life forces. This piece, in white for purity, stands watch.
Method Steel rod reinforced ferro-cement with oxides
4500 x 900 x 900

Another Stolen Generation (The Criminal Justice System) - 2008
This emotive work talks about alienation, and the loss of my grandchild, which was supported by a dysfunctional family court system caught up in political correctness.
Method Draped form ferro-cement and oxides.
1850 x 1200 x 700

For Life - 2006
This is a service memorial I was commissioned to create, and is erected outside the Churchill & District Community Hub in Churchill, Victoria.
It represents the reasons and the sacrifices that many people take on for the good of the community.
As well as a war memorial it is also recognising a large group of people whose work or community service puts them at risk of mental or physical harm whilst protecting the community. Paramedics, firefighters, trauma counsellors and police are a part of this large group of people.
Method Cast cement with coloured renders mosaic and metals.
2100 x 2100 x 1500

CERES Gateway
Commissioned by CERES Community Environmental Park through a grant from The Australian Council for the Arts, this piece was a co-creation between myself and Gordan Mandich (mosaic artist), with contributing mosaic elements from members of the community.
As a celebration of all that CERES represents and nurtures, we designed this festive gateway to welcome all who visit as they connect with ideas for humanity to harness, protect and enjoy the goodness of nature.
My contribution was from design to structural development, and the creation of ferro-cement elements.

Cycles of Time - 1998
This piece represents the cyclic nature and evolution of our solar system, galaxy and the universe.
I am in the process of restoring and remodelling this due to storm damage, and it is an opportunity for me to explore the same concepts using new techniques.
Method Combination of Casting and wire reinforced hose armatures based ferro-cement with oxides and mosaics
900 x 1350 x 1700

Life’s Flow - 1997
This piece is currently displayed in the main street of Yinnar, on loan to the Art Resource Collective (ARC).
The arch, consisting of five fluted segments, represents the complexity of nature.
Method: Hung form made with light steel rod and chicken wire reinforced ferro-cement. With oxides and mosaics.
2600 x 3100 x 500
★ Available for purchase POA.

Shelter Me - 1987
This work was acquired by the Newborough Traders Association as centrepiece for their town.
I created it after becoming a sole parent. It is about the isolation and vulnerability of that experience, particularly from a father’s perspective. The figures are of a parent and child.
The arch over the top represents a protective embrace which is given by society to the child yet doesn’t always provide adequate protection or comfort to the parent.
Method: It was my first foray into Ferro-cement and is created over a steel armature.
2200h x 3000s x 3000d - ferro-cement, oxides and tiles

Journey - 1996
This personal work is like a snapshot of my family life at the time it was made. It includes the place where I lived and a timeline of my children’s life, as well as a commentary on our local environment.
Method Combination of casting and armature based ferro-cement with oxides and mosaics
1000 x 1500 x 800

Early Works - 1986 & Prior
In the first year of my Fine Arts Degree, I created timber sculptures that encourage viewer participation through the use of mechanical elements that enable interaction and movement.
I used reclaimed materials and explored the contrast of humanity in nature.
